Lucid Druid Banner

Lucid Bios

Hailing from Tampa Bay, Florida, Lucid Druid initially formed in late 2003 for a special project that turned this select group of musicians into a band. Initially using the local Dunedin Brewery’s stage as a platform to explore and expose their music to the public, the band continues to increase in popularity and public support.  Quinn’s powerful, melodic compositions are the cornerstone for the captivating “lucid” sounds produced by this band.  Their unusual arrangements and exploratory jams make their music truly un-comparable to anything else being produced today in the genre of Celtic Fusion music.  As such, their all-instrumental performances have had a very strong, cross-generational appeal that has been revered & praised by audience members of all ages, regardless of any previous exposure to bagpipe music.

Band Members: Adam Quinn . Doug White . Joe Porter . Sebastian Deledda . Steve Turner

Adam Quinn
Adam Quinn

Bagpipes, Shuttlepipes, Clarinet, Didgeridoo

Adam Quinn has been playing bagpipes for over 25 years, and began composing music at age 13.  He actively took part in the musical scene offered in the local school system in Dunedin, Florida, where he was able to pursue interests in bagpipes, clarinet & piano performance.  At age 19, Adam accepted a position at Disney as an entertainer, performing first as a musician at Tokyo Disneyland in Japan for 2 years, and later hosting a bagpipe trio at Florida’s EPCOT Center.  In 1995, Adam moved to Vancouver, Canada and became a member of the world renowned Simon Fraser University Pipe Band, with whom he earned two-World Championship titles & landed a live recording at Carnegie Hall in NYC.

Adam self-published his first book of original bagpipe compositions in 2004.  His  unique tunes & arrangements have been performed around the world and are featured on numerous recordings. Adam's musical innovation and style are clearly expressed in Lucid Druid's music, which has begun to shake the standards of traditional piping & label the musician / composer as an eccentric non-conformist, creating music that begs to be exposed.

Joe Porter
Joe Porter

Double Bass, Electric Bass

Joe Porter began studying music at the age of 12 when he first picked up a guitar.  At the urging of his friends he began to play the electric bass to help fill out a band they were forming.  It was around this time that Joe first heard the bass playing of the legendary Jaco Pastorious, thus his love for the bass became firmly implanted into his soul.  In 1991, Joe left the band to pursue a degree in music, earning a degree in jazz performance from the University of South Florida under the bass tutelage of Mark Neuenschwander and Dee Moses.

Immediately after earning his degree, Joe was asked to go on the road with legendary jazz trumpeter Maynard Ferguson, and the next two years (2001-2003) were spent playing in clubs and theaters around the world.  After the tour, Joe returned to his hometown of Clearwater, Florida to continue his study of the double bass and to work as a freelance musician. Divine Providence would have it that Joe would then meet piper Adam Quinn, and agree to explore a new genre of music by joining Lucid Druid.

Guitars

Sebastian Deledda has been a musician since childhood, having been raised in a musical family. He has no particular influences, preferring to enjoy whatever he happens upon. In 1993 he opened a recording studio and has been involved in recording and producing a wide array of projects since, including our Anecdota album.  He also more recently has had fun with various multimedia, including our Lucid videos.

Steve Turner
Steve Turner

Djembe, Ashiko, Talking Drum, Didgeridoo, Various Percussion

Steve Turner has been playing and making drums for over 20 years.  He is comfortable within many musical genres, from jazz to rock and even traditional African, ultimately blending these styles and influences to create his own distinct sound that is nothing short of amazing.  Once he starts playing his enticing rhythms on one of his drums, listeners cannot help themselves as they sway to the music.

In 2003, Steve moved next door to Adam (Divine Providence?), and it only took one jam session between them when they new they had a sound, and the rest is history...

When he's not playing with Lucid Druid, Steve facilitates drum circles and makes drums for his business, Giving Tree Music.  He currently lives with his wife and three children in Clearwater, Florida.
